Lauren Laverne returns as Music Week Awards host for 2018

Music Week is delighted to unveil Lauren Laverne as the host for the Music Week Awards 2018.

The BBC Radio 6 Music DJ will take charge of proceedings following a star turn in 2017, as the Awards return to London's Grosvenor House Hotel on April 26.

The presenter, DJ, broadcaster and writer began her career with indie band Kenickie, moving into the media following their split in 1998. The former XFM DJ presents an acclaimed daily show on 6 Music. Laverne also hosts regular Late Night Woman’s Hour programmes on Radio 4.

Laverne’s television career spans shows such as Transmission, The Culture Show, Style On Trial, 10 O’Clock Live and coverage of Glastonbury and The Mercury Prize. She also hosts the Turner Prize Awards.

Laverne founded fashion and culture website The Pool in 2015.

Music Week editor Mark Sutherland said: “We are delighted to welcome Lauren Laverne as the host of the 2018 Music Week Awards. Twelve months ago, Lauren filled the room with her unrivalled passion for music, and we look forward to more of the same, as the industry’s favourite night out of the year returns for its biggest and best edition yet.”

The 2018 Music Week Awards saw a record number of entries, as higher competition than ever before marks a stellar year in UK music.

The highly prestigious Record Company award will see 2017 winners Syco return to fight it out with Atlantic, Columbia, Polydor, Virgin EMI and Warner Bros. Meanwhile, in the fiercely-contested Publisher Of The Year category, the three majors – Sony/ATV, Universal Music Publishing Group and Warner/Chappell – are up against indies BMG, Concord, Downtown, Reservoir, Sentric, Spirit B-Unique and reigning champs Kobalt.

This year’s Manager Of The Year award will also be a heavyweight contest, with managers and management teams for the likes of Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher, Rag’N’Bone Man, Skepta, Stormzy, Clean Bandit and Lana Del Rey all in the frame.
