'We know how to deliver': Ben Lovett to open new London venue in 2020

Mumford & Sons keyboard player Ben Lovett has announced plans to open a new music venue in London.

Lovett, a vocal supporter of small venues, opened Omeara in Flat Iron Square near London Bridge in 2016 and has revealed that Lafayette, its successor, will be located in Kings Cross.

Lafayette @ Goods Way is set to open its doors in February 2020. The venue will be located close to Pancras Square and Granary Square, within the new Goods Way development.

Lovett said: “A few years ago I embarked on a journey into the unknown with family and friends and launched Omeara at Flat Iron Square. We weren’t entirely clear how to achieve what we ultimately wanted, but we definitely knew what it needed to be and why we were doing it.

“I have had some of my favourite and most memorable experiences in Omeara since it opened, and I truly believe that the experience it has provided both fans and artists is something so important to London’s venue landscape.”

London should continually strive to be at the forefront of the entertainment industry

Lovett said he’s “forever committed to pushing forward a new era of music venues that truly elevate people’s expectations of what that experience should be”.

He added: “I believe London ought to continually strive to be at the forefront of the entertainment industry on a global stage, as the best city in the world. It’s still early days in the venue’s construction but, this time, not only do we know exactly what it will be and why we’re doing it, but we’re now extremely confident that we know how to deliver it too!”

Building works are now underway, and the venue will be booked by Communion, the team behind events at the 320-capacity Omeara.

Capacity information and details of Lafayette’s opening shows will follow, with Lovett planning a varied programme, from regular club nights to one-off events.
