Roy Orbison will return to the stage in hologram form, backed by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, in a first-of-its-kind UK tour.
Roy Orbison In Dreams: The Hologram UK Tour will launch in April 2018. Presented through theatrical stagecraft, it will recreate the rock'n'roll icon through holographic imaging as he performs his greatest hits accompanied by a live symphony orchestra.
His son Alex Orbison, president of Roy Orbison Music, said “My Dad was one of the first people to combine rock and roll with orchestral sound so to see the full meal deal of having the big orchestra with my Dad is really a dream set up.”
Beginning at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena on April 8, the tour will go on to visit Birmingham Genting Arena (9), Manchester O2 Apollo (11), Edinburgh Playhouse (12), Glasgow SEC Armadillo (13), Leeds First Direct Arena (14), Nottingham Royal Centre (16), Liverpool Echo 2 (17), London Hammersmith Eventim Apollo (18) and concluding at Bournemouth BIC on April 20. Tickets go on general sale on Friday, October 27.
Tour promoter Danny Betesh, founder and MD of Kennedy Street, who originally promoted shows with Orbison in the 1960s, said: “I’ve been working with artists and live shows since the 60s and it’s immensely exciting to see Roy back on the stage in such a modern and creative way. His music never went away and now fans can enjoy seeing the live show and hearing all those much loved songs.”
Orbison, who died in 1988, achieved three UK No.1 singles in the 1960s - Only The Lonely (Know The Way I Feel), It's Over and Oh, Pretty Woman.
Sony Music will also release the album, A Love So Beautiful: Roy Orbison With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on November 3.
