Six Questions With... Ollie Rosenblatt of Senbla

Welcome to the latest edition of Six Questions With..., a weekly short and sharp interview with a live music figure. Email jhanley@nbmedia.com if you would like to take part or recommend someone for inclusion.

This week's Q&A is with Ollie Rosenblatt, founder of promoter Senbla, which works with acts such as Burt Bacharach, Marc Almond and Joss Stone.

What was your first job in music?

My own when I re-started a jazz venue, starting promoting aged 18. First employer was Jazz FM after uni.

How long have you been in your current role?

Since I started my own company so six years ago.

What is your favourite thing about working in the live music industry?

When I get to be more than a promoter. When I am involved from the idea to the building and development of something and seeing it turn into reality. Also, entertaining people. Bringing happiness to an audience and seeing that. Knowing that through the work we do we've helped make an impact on their lives. Giving them an escape for a few hours.

What is the one thing you would like to change about the business?

People's arrogance and ignorance.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Working very closely with some legendary artists on the televised concerts I created, produced and promoted.
Also, building my business from small clubs gig venues to major concert halls and arenas nationally.

What's the best gig you’ve ever been to?

It's hard to say the best. But I knew I was fascinated with live music after I went to see Alicia Keys at Wembley Arena. That's stuck with me and is probably one of the reasons I do what I do so I'd have to say that one is definitely up there. Also, any Burt Bacharach concert. To hear hit after hit and see him perform is a beautiful thing.
