The producers behind Jim Steinman’s Bat Out Of Hell – The Musical have announced that the musical will be returning to London’s West End in 2018, with performances beginning at the Dominion Theatre on April 2. Tickets went on sale today (December 4).
Andrew Polec and Christina Bennington are said to be in positive negotiations to reprise their roles as the romantic leads, Strat and Raven, at the Dominion Theatre. Further casting is to be announced.
In June, Music Week spoke to one of the show's producers, David Sonenberg, about the making of the historic Bat Out Of Hell album and its journey towards the West End. In the interview, Sonenberg in particular praised the cast's ability to bring Steinman and Meat Loaf's classic songs to life, especially Polec.
“For him to handle these songs…” exhaled Sonenberg. “You can’t sing this eight days a week and survive. Jim’s stuff is designed to kill you.It almost killed Meat, and he was performing maybe four times a week at the height.”
In addition to the news of its return, the musical also won the Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical, following on from the show’s limited seasons at Manchester Opera House and London Coliseum earlier this year. It is currently based in Toronto, where performances will end on 7 January 2018.
It has also just been nominated for eight What’s On Stage Awards, including Best New Musical.
