Crowdmix goes into administration
London start-up Crowdmix has gone into administration. The music-based social media platform, which is yet to officially launch, reportedly laid off 8% of its staff – around a dozen employees – back in April. Remaining staff now won’t receive their June wages, which had already been delayed, according to Business Insider. The company had been waiting to secure emergency funding, but any deals seem to have fallen through. Staff were told in a meeting at Crowdmix’s London office yesterday that the company will be “winding down”, while jobs remain uncertain. Crowdmix may try to sell itself or its intellectual property. It raised over £14 million in venture capital funding, with an invite-only version launched in May this year to show for it.
AIF & Secret Garden Party issue joint statement on festival sexual assault
Following the report of a rape at 2015’s Secret Garden Party, and growing media coverage of sexual assaults at festivals both in the UK and abroad, Paul Reed, general manager, Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) has issued a joint statement with SGP calling for “clarity regarding recent articles in the media” and accusing some sections of “scaremongering on what is obviously a very serious subject”. Reed claimed that some recent articles have been poorly researched, and in some instances entirely inaccurate, with Secret Garden Party also stating that some writers lied about contacting its office or representatives, adding that such reporting “risk actively endangering our audience by convincing them we don't care, that there is no point approaching us with their concerns and by portraying festivals as a place where people can expect to get away with this kind of behavior”. The festival said it has requested dialogue with women’s organisation Good Night Out, and engaged in “correspondence with individuals who have concerns on this issue, offering an open and transparent forum for debate.” AIF are now planning a public facing awareness campaign addressing the issue, working with appropriate partner organisations to get clear safety messages out to audiences alongside producing a shared charter of best practice and vulnerability policies for members and the wider industry.
Raw Power launches producer arm
Artist management firm Raw Power has opened a new producer management division, launching with five acclaimed rock producers on its roster. With offices on both sides of the Atlantic, Funhouse Producer Management will see Don Jenkins (commercial director) and Craig Jennings (CEO) head up the UK operation in London, while Matt Ash (VP, US) will oversee the LA business. The initial line-up of client represented by Funhouse includes Colin Richardson, Carl Brown, Adrian Bushby, Drew Fulk and Fred Archambault. Between them they have worked with some of the biggest acts in rock, such as Muse, Foo Fighters, Fear Factory, Slipknot and Bullet For My Valentine. Speaking to Music Week about the new venture, Jenkins said: “We’ve [Raw Power] always taken an active role in the making of the records and we’ve formed connections with lots of producers, so it became obvious to us that this could be a great area for us to develop into. Funhouse joins the dots with what we’re already doing.” Jenkins also revealed plans for growth over the coming months. “We are certainly looking to expand this as a division,” he said. “But we don’t want to bite off more than we can chew. We want to make sure we give the best possible service. The talent bar has been set pretty high straight from the off so we’d be looking for exceptional people to work with.”
LyricFind launches Australia chart
Lyric licensing service LyricFind is launching a LyricFind Australia. Appearing via The Music Network, the weekly LyricFind Australia chart takes data from billions of lyric displays and ranks the top trending lyrics. The chart is segmented to just Australian users and highlights the most popular current searches. The deal follows LyricFind’s partnership with Google, to offer featured placement for lyrics in search results and within Google Play Music, in a move that looks to cut out third party websites that may be infringing copyright. "We're very excited to launch the LyricFind charts in Australia exclusively on The Music Network," said LyricFind CEO Darryl Ballantyne. "Australia is a vibrant music market that has created some of the brightest breakout stars of the music world. By using our Lyrics data we're confident we can shine a light on more future hit artists and records coming out of the region."
